Promoting blues worldwide
The area now known as Loiusiana was originally home to several native American Indian tribes, In 1682, the French adventurer La Salle was welcomed by one of these. After enjoying their hospitality the entrepreneur paddled his canoe on to the river mouth. Then despite the many tribes for whom this area was home, he claimed the whole Mississippi river valley region for France. He named it Louisiana after the French king Louis XIV. Thirty convicts were put to work, clearing the river-sides of the dense vegetation, in the area where New Orleans now stands. Once completed carpenters set about building provisional shelters, made from the abundant hard-wood trees. The city, standing at the mouth of the mighty Mississippi has witnessed numerous nationalities disembark at its busy port. Many of these have settled in the city over the years adding their voice to the musical tapestry that is New Orleans.
